Frequently asked questions
What student data does Extra Credit access?
Only what you upload: student submissions (images/PDFs) and rubric criteria. Student names are automatically stripped before AI processing. We never access your Google Classroom, Google Drive, or any other Google services.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. Your data is never used for AI model training. We use Anthropic's Claude API, which has a zero-retention policy for API inputs. Your rubrics, student work, and grades are never shared with third parties for any purpose.
What Google data do you access?
Only your basic profile: name, email address, and profile photo. This is used solely for authentication (signing you in) and displaying your name in the app. We request the minimum scopes required. See our Google Data Disclosure for full details.
Is Extra Credit FERPA compliant?
Extra Credit is designed with FERPA alignment in mind: student names are stripped before AI processing, data is encrypted, 30-day hard deletion is enforced, and we provide a Data Processing Agreement for schools. Contact us for institutional compliance review.
Can I use Extra Credit for free?
Yes. The free tier includes 5 grading sessions per month, AI grading with teacher review, CSV export, and the custom agent builder. No credit card required. Upgrade to Pro ($9/month) for unlimited sessions.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Settings > Account and click "Request Account Deletion." All your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days. You can cancel the deletion request during this period.
What file formats are supported?
PDF and image files (JPEG, PNG, WebP) for student submissions. You can also paste text directly. The AI can read handwritten work, typed essays, and worksheets.
Can I revoke Google access?
Yes. Go to your Google Account > Security > Third-party apps with account access, find Extra Credit, and click "Remove Access." This immediately revokes our access to your Google profile.
